upgrade to ECC and oracle data from old release

We are currently running oracle 10 on sap 4.7 and we are in the inital planning of upgrading to ECC6.

WE we initally installed sap ijn the early 90's we were on oracle 7.

We have heard that the data that is oracle 7 needs to e archived off the db before the upgrade because this data conficts with the SAP upgrade..

We can find no documentation on this.

Can you one provide information pertaining to oracle 7 data or rovide any documentation.

Thanks

Hi,

What you heard is wrong, or you miss understood it, or the person didn't explain it properly or ....

Currently you are running Oracle 10g.

All the "data" in your system is on Oracle 10g.

Oracle 7 is nowhere in the system. The data has been upgraded to Oracle 10g (currently what it is upgraded is the oracle data dictionary, located on the system tablespace)

If you had SAP and Oracle 7 once, then I assume it was an "old" version of SAP. The data is "updated" when you upgrade to newer SAP version, so again I do not see any issue here.

I've never heard anything similar to what you mentioned, for that reason I think my first pharse is correct.

(but I have to admit that I've never have done the full 7 -> 8.* -> 8.1 -> 9i -> 10g, only parts of it)

Perhaps someone else in the forum have other/more information
