i wanted to ask which data type in MaxDB is for string and wad is the code for it?

Hi,

for strings up to 8000 character ASCII or 4000 character UNICODE, take CHAR or VARCHAR.

For looooooon strings up to 2GB, use LONG. But be aware, that there are several restrictions concerning LONG-columns compared to (VAR)CHAR - columns.

For ASCII codepage 8859/ is assumed, UNICODE uses UCS/2.
