APO Landscape

Hi together,

we plan to run an APO System.

I want to use a iSeries Partition for all parts, which are running on System i !!!

How do the landscape looks like?

For example:

1.) SCM on IBM i with DB2 !
     Abap ?!
     Java (SERVER0) ?!

2.) Live Cache on WIN64 2003 Server with what DB ?!

Sizing:

1.) How much Space for running only APO-gATP?
2.) 1 CPU or 2 CPU on IBM i
3.) How much Disks Arms on IBM i ?

Where is the MAINLOAD? On the SCM instanz or on the LIVECache Instanz???

best regards,

Carsten Schulz

Hi Carsten,

Let me try to answer your questions from what I know.

Lanscape:

1. ABAP or ABAP+JAVA on System i

2. LiveCache is abased on MaxDB

Sizing:

Please try tools like quicksizer. Without any knowledge of the amount of data and the number of users, it is hard to guess.

Most of the case, the mainload is on the LiveCache side, which requires a LOT of memory.

Victor

Hi,

how often is the CI communicating to the APO Live Cache?

Is it permanently making load over the network?

Or should I believe that the LiveCache Instance needs a lot of Mainstorage and do all the calculating work?

And the central instance is only connecting the Live Cache from time by time to fill up data an get back data?

Hi Carsten,

the LiveCache needs about 50% memory of the expected LiveCache Size !

Otherwise, it will work, but perform poorly - as the name says already, it is a DB, that more or less holds all tables in RAM !

For all ERP (or whatever the name in APO is) runs you needs pretty often access to the MaxDB -> it needs to be locally to your CI ...

Hi,

thanks for answering!

Do I need the Java Stack on the iSeries Side for APO-gATP ?

What kind of software is the Live Cache instance ?

Hi

As far as I know, The Global Available to Promise doesn't need a Java stack to run. Its on the ABAP stack.

The Live Cache is nothing but MAX DB database software, which runs and gets installed in a diffferent fashion than the relational database. You select the livecache version of the database to be installed, while installing.

Its basically a object oriented database for fast retrieval of data, which resides in the main memory of the database system for faster retrival, if configured optimally.

Thanks
