Hi

The purpose of scheduling is when and what quantity should be delivered to the customer.

say if customer ask the company to deliver tomorrow, the company should have stock, and so many thing need to be checked. like specific customer , what type of material etc.

Before this you should know what is demand forecasting.

the demand forecasting means the company will do R & D about how much material we can manufacture on a week or month basis.

now based on the material availability in stock, the company will deliver the material on the date which automatically sap system will propose.

Based on the material availability date the system will do backward scheduling or forward scheduling

thanks

Hi Rahul

Whenever customer gives an order, he ask to deliver at his place on certain date, means he gives a Requested delivery date.

Unless, scheduling is done in the Sales order, how can you confirm whether you can keep his requested date. If you can not keep his requested , then you have to tell him the is earliest possible next date on which you can deliver him. This you can know from the scheduling done by the system.

System, first starts Backward scheduling. It starts calculating backward from the Requested delivery date and calculates the "Material availability date" & the "Transportation Planning date".

To confirm the Requested delivery date, these two dates should be after the order date and material also should be available on the material availability date.

Unless, system calculate the Material Av. date & Transportation Planning date, how can you know whether those are earlier or after the order date.

Beside this, availability check is conducted for the Material Availability date and remember for no other date.Materail has to be available on this date to start the shipping processing.

Therefore you need to know the Material availability date and you can know it from the delivery scheduling.

In the order you have the requested delivery date. The system then performs backward scheduling to see if this requested date can be used as delivery date. If not the system performs forward schedulig to get the earlist delivery date.
