Hi Vaidyanathan :
When you go to your planning book , there is a menu "settings" on top , you can see "forecast profile " option there , You can see there if any master forecast profile has been assigned to this planning book/planning area or not .
In order to do forecatsing , you need to have a master forecast profile . The forecasting profile is the mechanism to identify the forecasting parameters. Each forecast profile is assigned to a planning area. You may have more than one profile for each planning area.
In the profile, you define the key figure that will be forecasted, the horizon or the number of periods into the future that you want to forecast, and the horizon or number of periods you want to use as historical data input.
For statisctical forecasting , you should have following setups .
Planning object structures , Planning area & pla nning books .
Master data : Charecteristics values combinations
Defining Forecast Models (you do this by creating master forecast profile) & finally creating demand Forecast.
Each of this steps is very detailed .
