File adapter password length

I ran into a strange phenomenon, when configuring FTP access to an internal server (we are running Netweaver 2004s). For this server very strong password apply with length 20. Because I kept getting the message "Login incorrect" we have started to shorten the password and as of 12 characters the problem was solved.

I was wondering if anyone has encountered the same problem: Is this a fixed length or is this customizable?

Thats pretty strange. I just did a quick digging of OSS notes and the only note I found was this

but it does not speak of FTP password length.
