If we are adding materials having first character as " (Eg: "ABCD), then replacement
happens with previous item existing in the BOM. This is as per the standard coding and this is applicable from 2nd line item.
My question:
1) I'm looking for a business case / functional scenario for the same.
Hello Janardhan ,
if you have "complex" Materialnumbers (XXX-ABC-001, XXX-ABC-002,...) then you enter in the first line the whole number, in the second line only "002 to get XXX-ABC-002 and so on.

Hi Johannes,
Thanks a lot for the reply.
If the lenght of the source material (XXX-ABC-001) is lesser than material to be added ("002) then a standard error message " in material number " " cannot be replaced will be raised.
If material masters have been defined with " as the first character without knowing this functionality, this error message sound very confusing.
If I do not want replacment functionality, what is the work around to include these materials in the BOM ? Renaming the material masters ??
Also, are you aware of any documents which explain this functionality ? I could not find any such links.
Regards,
Janardhan
