Dear All,
From ECC 6.0 onwards its mandatory to use Soloution Manager (SOLMAN). Can anybody tell me why its mandaotry explaining all the necessary points.
Thanks & Regards,
Abhay.
Hi Abhay,
that's a very complex question...
First of all there is the point with the installation key. If you you want to install (or upgrade) a new system you have to enter an installation key in SAPINST routine. This key you can only generate in SolMan.
Another reason is the download of support packages. For all support packages up from SAP Netweaver 2004s you have to perfom a special confirmation step to put the selected packages from the confirmation queue in the Download Basket to the downbload queue. After that you can download the packages with your local installaed Download Manager. For this confirmation you need the "Maintenance Optimizer" function in SolMan.
These two ar in my opinion the reasons why you 'have' to install the SolMan but of course there are a lot of reasons where you can benefit from the functions of SolMan.
Regards
Thomas
