Hi,
We are facing a strange problem. I am not locking anything neither do I see anything in SM12. No jobs running ...but still when i am running my consistency check or initialize planning area, I am getting a message saying "The User XXX locking planning version 000 in planning area XXXX". All my process chains are also failing because of this.
We restarted the server but the lock is still left out. I am guessing something got stuck internally in tables and not able to get unlocked.
Any ideas are appreciated.
Please check report SLCA_LCK_SYNCHOWNERS iwhich is designed to check and clear any locks which remain there in system which do not have a corresponding entry in transaction SM12 anymore. i am not sure but try this and let me know also

The planning area had to be reinitialized as the system is stuck in some table with the status id locked.

i assume user xxx got kicked out mid session and the table never got flushed. if possible ask user xxx to log into the planning area and log out again.
