SCM 2007 Vs. SCM 5.1:

Product name is SCM 2007. SCM 5.1 is component under SCM 2007. However it is noted that these names are typically used interactively.

As product is newly introduced...unless you need critical functionality being newly provided, you could wait till initial stabilization happens.

Benefits:

Enterprise Service bundle

DP: Flexible graph generation, usability for context menu, identify/delete obsolete CVCs, enhancements in <<

Graphics, Selection Mgmt

>>

SNP: Profitability driven SCM, Optimization - prioritization, sequence dep. setup costs, quota arrangements , receipt bounds, BADIs for master data edit thru CIF, enhancements in <<

Shelf-life, subcontracting, Prod. Interchangeability, graphics, CTM

>>

PP/DS: User maintained capacity reservations, MRP based detailed scheduling, download SNP blocks, Enterprise Services, enhancements in <<

Campaign Planning, CTP

>>

SCM 7.0: This is still in development by SAP.

Sanju,

Some of key enhancements in SCM APO 7.0 over SCM 2005 are :

For Process Industries - Resource Networks,Finite Tank Planning

In Demand Planning - New Forecasting algorithm for better use of POS Data

Enabled New Process before Demand Planning - Customer Forecast Managment

Characteristic Based Cross Plant Planning in CTM

Since SCM APO 7.0 is in ramp up stage.

SCM5.1 is out of ramp-up and now GA so when deciding to upgrade it is best to go to latest release. We have SCM5.1 running and the benefits of DP are consistent with points listed below, however we did have to apply a few packages because the CIF product master model on deletion activities and also the CVC log had some bugs, but after that it is working just fine.

Depending on what release you are coming from, be aware that SCM5.1 has the BI7.0 has the back-end BW system, SAP put a lot of time and energy into BI7.0 so your 3.5 experience will need to be upgraded to make sure you can support the BW component.

Hi all,

Additionally SCM2007 came with a Lot of

"Industry Specific Planning and Execution" functionalities

for HiTech, CPG, Steel Industries in the Core Apps.

Newer things on Sales and Operations Planning (SOP) and "Duet Demand Planning" and Mainly a Lot of Newer Fucntionalities in "Supply Network Collaboration" (SNC) which was previously Called ICH (Inventory Collaboratio Hub).

On Execution Side, much Richer Functionalities in 'Transportation Management' and 'Extended Warehouse Management'.

There is a wonderfull 75 Page document on SAP Website called "SAP Supply Chain Management 2007.pdf" (Adobe)

which beautifully captures the differences in APO Planning from all the Past Versions an on Page 49 & 54 it mentions the New things on APO Planning engine.

This document can be found on the SDN.

Hope you find this Information usefull. If it does please award.

In a general way, SCM 2007 (or SCM 5.1) becomes much more friendly.

benifits of SCM2007(5.1)

Demand planning

1)Interactive planning : flexible generation of a graph-->it displays a chart in the popup window only showing the selected values for the user

2) identify and delete obsolete CVCs..earlier to this version, we were using BAdIs to extract ols CVCs..

this is good developement

3)Better DP selection management..button to create a selection variant...mass maintanace for selection variants...copy selection variants assignment from user to another

In SCM7.0 we have good develepment for identifying missing CVCs in SNP comparing to DP POS..so we can avoid custom developments for this from SCM7.0

making CBP work for VC relevant materials

CTM to plan CBP and work for cross loaction..

i believe they are the same...

while they went away from the naming convention of using the year of release in ECC and went from ERP2005 to ECC6 etc, they went into it in SCM. So after another year we will get back to using SCM7 a la ECC6 .....

remember reading a SAP press release on the naming change but they didnt follow it for SCM

interstingly microsoft also does these changes to naming conventions to office and i dont know what i am buying - office 2007 office 7

The best place to look for changes are release notes. these are found in the help as the last section

Also a good idea to look at notes on release restrictions which tells what it still cant do

disclaimer:

opinion on Ecc is an uneducated guess and may not be true

office is a registered trademark of microsoft 😛
