Strange BRBackup error

Former Member

Hello all,

I am facing a strange issue with brbackup. When initiating a backup from brtools on the OS, the backup works perfectly. However, when i try to start the backup from DB13, it fails.

I'm running SAP 4.7 on Oracle 9.2.

I have added a part of the logs from both a succesfull and an unsuccesfull backup.

Can somebody shed some light on this?

Kind regards,

Cees

Hi Sergo,

I don't see any errors in the event logs.

So no help there.

Try to add full authorizations on folder J:\oracle\DS1\920\database and on K:\oracle\DS1\sapbackup to, for SAPSERVICE"SID" user. Regards.

Hello Cees,

what third party backup tool are you using (for example TDP, etc..)?

Do you run the brbackup command on the OS with the same user as the SAP is running with?

The BR*Tools are doing some pre-steps for the backup (tablespace backup mode) correct and if the "extern" backup tool is being used there is an error.

Have you a logfile for the third party tool?

Hi Sergo,

I added full control to sapservice<sid> and there's no change.

Are you can check logs in K:\oracle\DS1\sapbackup\ folder (check last by time) ? In DB13 the backup starts under sapservice<sid> user... and from SID"adm" user you can succesfully try backup? Regards.

Hello Stefan,

The third party tool we are using is Veritas Netbackup.

I use sapservice<sid>, who is the same user as SAP is using for executing the backup.

The external tool is not initiating the backup, but only used as the administrative tool for the backups. the backup is initiated from sap to brbackup. setting the tablespaces is not the error in this case.

The third pasrty tool doesn't create a logfile, because the backup aborts before communicating with the backup-tool.

I suspect some environment variable or something, but i havent'found out which one.

Especially because doing the backup from BR*Tools works perfectly.

Hi Sergo,

starting a backup from both sapserviceDS1 and DS1adm works when started directly from the command line using BR*Tools.
