HI
1)Patch is nothing but an update to an existing functionality of a particular case.
Service Pack is nothing but an update to the whole functionality of XI.
2) There will be different number of patches to be applied for one service pack.
i.e
Patch is nothing but an update to an existing functionality of a particular case.
Service Pack is nothing but an update to the whole functionality of XI.
3) In general software terms, patches are bug fixes for a particular software with Existing Functionality.
Where as ServicePack means a new functionality Using which we upgrade the existing functionality for a particular software.
4) Service pack is for Entire XI System, and patch is for adding features to service pack.
When a new service pack is first released, the patch level goes back to zero. Subsequent patches that apply to that service pack are then numbered from one onwards.
It would however be technically possible to install a service pack and the patch level still stay the same. For example if you were on V2005 SP0 Patch 2, and installed the Service Pack 1 upgrade, the patch level would remain at 0.
cheers
