DI Installation problem (BI, JAVA AddIn)

Hi.

I have a problem...

Current situation:

BI 7 system (AIX, Oracle, ABAP and JAVA AddIn-Installation). Now i have to install a dialog instance...

I have chosen an ABAPJAVA DI. Now i get the following error message:

lnx0015a:u31adm 14> less batchconfig.log

Can not get DB connection. Batchconfig will only be able to execute offline tasks.

now i don't know how to solve the problem...

Configtool is not available.

I am sorry, my thread is incomplete...

The installation of the DI is on a separate server (SLES10 / x86_64).

Do you use the JDK from note "861215 - Recommended Settings for the Linux on AMD64/EM64T JVM?"

The SuSE delivered JDK does not work.

Hi Martin,

just some things to check, because it appears that the JDBC-connect to the database fails while installing the dialog instance.

Did you already check:

1. Whether the listener is up and running? (tnsping <sid> from the dialog instance works ?)

2. Whether you are able to start the 'configtool' , view the Secure Store settings and connect to the database instance this way ?

3. If it should be that you are using virtual hostnames, you have to perform the installation using the property:

/path/to/sapinst SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=<virtual_hostname>

Additionally, what does the system.log in the install_dir says about this error?

I had a little chat with my DB-admin, because i was not able to run tnsping...

-> we use only instant client and tnsping is not part of that....

Hi Martin,

Ouch, no configtool available? This is very strange. Maybe the JDBC drivers are also missing? Looks like sapinst did not extract all files.

Again, what's the content of system.log (not sapinst.log)

Sometimes it's hard to differ system.log and sapinst.log 🐵

I have seen in system.log, that the files in /sapmnt/U31/global/security/data are missing. Do they have to be mounted from the CI?

Or are they created when installing the DI?

Yes, /sapmnt/U31/global/ (or at least /sapmnt) should be available system wide ( -> NFS share).

What was the problem?

At the moment we are installing 18 Dialog instances for ABAP, JAVA and ABAP&JAVA.

When installing an ABAP DI, we had a problem, that the installation took 2.5 hours. Reason was the global-directory...

There are millions of files (productive system with more than 80 clients) - and every file will get a chmod 775 by the installer...

To shorten die installation time, we decided to mount an empty global-directory. Worked well for the ABAP-DI ;o)

Hello.

I ran into this error whilst installing a new DI for a NW Java system. As it turns out, this was merely due to an unstable/faulty DB/network connection. After spending a fair amount of time sifting through log files and finding nothing of value, I exited the installation and performed a restart using the "old option" suggested by the delivery tool.

The installation then proceeded right past the previous error phase (Install instance basics) and completed successfully without any additional input/changes on my part.

In conclusion: this error message is most likely generated by a bad network connection between CI and DI servers. Please verify your connection(s) and ensure the DB is up and running. It might also be a good idea to perform a number of connection checks from the application server on which the new DI is to be installed.
