Hi Experts,
Could you please tell me what is the difference b/w MDM and BW/BI ?
Thanks & Regards
Murali.
Hi Murali,
BI is meant for reporting puproses and it deals with basically Master and Transactional Data. BI uses the Master data for reporting purposes. It is a transactional system.
Whereas MDM stands for Master Data Management. It is used to Consolidate, Harmonize and Centrally Manage the Master Data. It takes the Data from various SAP/NON SAP system and then Consolidate their Master Data. It achieve the single Version of truth and then Harmonizes the Data back to the Source systems.
There is no reporting available with MDM. But BI can make use of MDM to get accurate reports. MDM can provide BI with Accurate and Considated Master Data And then BI make use of it and help in Correct analytics.

MDM is for master data while BI is for transactional data. BI can use MDM for more efficient analytical reporting.... MDM has no (or very little) place for transactional data...
