SDM not starting in jstartupframework

I am at SP15 of NW04 ABAP and J2EE. Trying to start the SDM I have followed the steps in the SP15 guide:

StopServer.sh

sdm.sh jstartup mode=standalone

sdm.sh j2eeenginestartstop mode=automatic

sdm.sh jstartup mode=integrated

StartServer.sh

All steps are successful, but the last one just hangs and a message posts every 5 seconds:

OK server is not running. Enable SDM Process in JStartupFramework.

Successfully enabled SDM Process in JStartupFramework.

Waiting 5 seconds for SDM server to start...

SDM server not up after 5 seconds. Waiting for another 5 seconds.

....

and it repeats indefinitely every 5 seconds. Nothing else is running on the port (5xx18). Any ideas?

I switched it to standalone mode and it worked. This seems contrary to the documentation that says to put it in integrated mode.

There can be many reasons for it and there are some OSS-Notes and lots of threads about this.

On which platform you are working? I had the same problem with the NW4 Testdricve for Linux and now I'm using the Deploy Tool (Visual Administrator).
