In a SAP u2013 XI interface we map different message structure to each other. XSLT and

message mapping are the primary tools used for these purposes. A common scenario is

mapping a flat XML structure, those generated from the contents of ASCII flat files or

database contents generated by SQL (Select) Statements, may be converted to

hierarchical XML files required by proprietary applications like SAP IDOCs in this case.

IDOCs have segments, which have parent-child relationships among them. It is the

presence of these segments, which creates the hierarchical structure. ASCII flat files and

Database table contents commonly have flat file structures, which may be converted, to

XML files by respective adapters.

People have the misconception that Graphical Mapping Editor doesnu2019t provide this

functionality and they opt for XSLTs. But using XSLTs degrade the performance of the

interface and moreover they are not easily maintainable.
