I am an SAP newbie, working on XI Technology certification,
(recently completed BIT400).
I do not have access to an SAP system, and am looking for a
way to do some sort of home setup that will at least be
enough to look at the various xi screens.
Here are my questions --
1. Can I somehow install xi that will hook up to a minisap
instance?
My current understanding of minisap(haven't purchased it yet)
is that it will allow me to set up a small footprint instance
of SAP WEB AS so that I can look at Basis screens.
2. Assuming I have two or more servers at my disposal, what
do I need to install to get a marginally working instance
of xi --- and where can I find it?
3. Does SAP provide some sort of short-term (maybe 90 day)
license so that I as an individual can work on learning
this technology?
Lee,
you can get a mini SAP NW4 testdrive on http://sap.com/linux. Unfortunately there is no XI stuff on that testdrive.
I you have access to SAP oss, (company account) you might be able to download a complete NW4 XI installation.
I installed this on my IBM T41 laptop using Fedora Core 2 OS. You need approx 1 GB RAM and 45 GB Disk space (and a valid license).
SAP is working on an XI Testdrive, you can find information on this in SDN under downloads.

Hi!!!
As far as I know (this info may not be up to date) it could be difficult to have a such test system at home just for evaluation purpose: you can't download XI from http://service.sap.com/swdc, SAP sends XI on discs to its customers and partners. So I suppose that your company should order it at SAP.
You wrote that you took part in BIT400 training course. Well, when I was attending to this course last year, we were working with XI 2.0.
If you are going to pass XI 3.0 certification, you should rather take TBIT40/TBIT44 training courses and 3 e-learnings: TBIT41/42/43.

Andrzej
