There is no relation between CCMs and Solution Manager as such. To answer your question it is No, it is not required

The SAP Solution Manager is a platform which provides integrated support of the life-cycle of a business solution, from the Business Blueprint via configuration to production operation.
The Solution Manager provides central access to tools, methods and preconfigured contents, which you can use during the evaluation and implementation, as well as in operation processing of your systems.
It is basically repository. I am not sure what do you mean by monitoring mapping alerts in Solution Manager. As such I don't find any link in betwene these two
