SRM utility

hi all,

1) i want to know the advantages of using SRM for a company.there r so many ERP(oracle,baan,peoplesoft,jdedwards etc) packages r available in the market,so instead of that why we r going to implement SAP SRM.

2) which industries r generally use SAP SRM?

can anyone help on this issue helpfully.
