Hi,
My client is currently on XI 3.0 and I have got the job to convince him to upgrade to PI 7.0
I have searched SDN but i am afraid i could not find the information i am looking for.
I want to know the advantages of PI 7.0 over XI 3.0 and why should a customer go for PI 7.0. Also, what r the major differences between PI 7.0 and XI 3.0 ( obviously not similarities, which is there in every thread on this topic. : - ) )

y dnt u convince ur client for PI 7.1..
There is no new features added in PI7.0, if u have working on XI 3.0, PI7.0 Older versions the features same..
But PI7.1 there are new changes u can find below.....

From functional point, there is no difference between XI3.0 and PI7.0. There are changes only wrt SP. For every SP release on PI7.0 a corresponding SP for XI3.0 is also released.

In addition to above information, please know that in the PI 7.0 guide it is clearly mentioned that:
If the client is already on XI 3.0 then there is no business need to upgrade to PI 7.0. However, if a customer is planning to go for fresh implementation then SAP would recommend them to PI 7.0 .
Also, by upgrading to PI 7.0 from XI 3.0, its going to be easier to upgrade to PI 7.1, which is going to hit this market in next few months.
Talking about advantages, PI 7.0 has certain additonal SCM components which can be helpful for the customers. Apart from this some enhancement in performance of adapter engine and integration engine and new GUI for SLD and RWB.

XI Vs PI
There is not much difference between XI 3.0 with latest Service Pack i.e. 20 or 21 and PI 7.0
The main difference between 3.0 and 7.0 is the GUI in SLD. But, it is pretty easy to adopt. All other components, e.g. IR, ID, RWB, should virtually be identical.
7.0 also contain some SCM contents not available from 3.0. For most of us, this is a non-issue.
In 7.0 we can schedule a background job and edit the payload.*

I have already seen this threads....
DO you mean to say that there is nothing good enough in PI 7.0, which should tempt the customers to go for it and the customers should go for it only for the sake of upgrading and getting a new version.

No there is not much differences between XI 3.0 and PI 7.0. It have just changed the undlaying Web Application server from 6.40 to 7.0.
And even as per the Cost point of view, its better to go for the latest service packs in XI3.0 as all the features are alreday available.
So it will save the upgradation cost also.
But if you are looking for Upgrade to 7.1 in furture, then the upgrade from PI 7.0 is more easiser than from XI3.0.
Better will suggest to go for PI 7.1 as it will be available in next month....and will be preferrable from all the features that PI 7.1 coan provide.
There are many modifications in Adapter Engine also for performance.

As such there is no big difference in terms of architecture. if you talk totaly from technical perspective then XI with SP=22 is equal to PI with SP=15 (from developer perspective).
But it is always good to use latest version if it is available and reliable too. If your customer is not in hurry then you can also go for PI 7.1 directly instead of 7.0.
If you want to know more about the Bais diff between 3.0 and 7.0 then search few forums, it will give you an idea.
