Does PI (XI) support EDI transactions?

What additional infrastructure does a customer need to have in place to support the use of EDI?

For a customer that does not have this infrastructure in place is there a better alternative?

Hi,

Yes PI support EDI or in business terms B2B scenarios.

EDI integration can be done in any of the following ways

1) Using third party adapters like seeburger.

2) Using module program

3) Using convergen agent.

Seeburger is third party adapter hence u need to purchase the Seeburger license and install and configure the Seeburger on PI.

Hi Anilkumar K Naidu,

EDI is the format supported by most of custmoers.

3rd party adapter will help to convert edi to xml and xml to edi

Seeburgar will do the same. And having differnt modules

1.classifier---- Identifies EDI file type

2.Splitter------ Split the the nodes to Acknowledgement actual data

3.Converter---- Converts E2X and X2E.

EDI subsytems also will help you for EDI transaction.

Thanks,

Yeah it supports,,,

got thorugh these for EDI with Xi..

the most important thing when doing EDI with XI is to realize that XI basically only understands XML while most common EDI-Standards are non-XML.

Therfor you need to make sure that you have the possibility in your Inbound and Outbound-Channels to translate file from XML to non-XML-EDI and from non-XML-EDI to XML.

This possibility is provided by Itemfield Conversion Agent and by Seeburger Adapters.

(here it is important that the schema you are using in your XI-Mapping really fits to whatever translation is done in the CHannels).

The next requirement is to check the transmission of the files and some special requirements of your EDI-Partners.

The Seeburger Adapters provide here several EDI-specific-protocols (OFTP, AS2, X400, VAN-Access...) along with EDI-specific functionalities, like SyntaxCheck, EDI-Counters, ControlNumbers, Analyzing features ....

(and here I think you wont´t find this with Itemfield...)

But if you just can use FilePort and have an EDI-System anyway connected to XI that has to do all the transmission, then the Itemfield Conversion AGent might be sufficient

(but then it is no real integrated EDI with XI)
