Creating a Failover Environment

Hi,

As part of designing a HA system for our SAP implementation we have identified systems like ECC, EP and PI being business critical and BI being a non-critical system.

I have following question:

For BI I have a CI running on host A and a DI running on host B. If I give Host A a virtual hostname would I be able to do a manual failover from Host A to B for the CI.

Any thoughts or better solution.

Thanks,

Naveed

Hi Naveed,

For Configuring HA is not so difficult.Certainly, you require to know the os/DB and sap dependencies first. In general, from Netweaver 2007 onwords CI is not the Part of HA ASCS(ABAP)/SCS(JAVA) based system is the one who is part of HA along with DB.

So you have to decide and plan your failover strategy.

Hi King,

Thankyou for the response. I understand that ASCS and SCS can be separated now as part of NW 2007 and can be setup as HA, and thats how we are doing our ECC, PI and EP systems. My question was more around if I want to save the software cost of setting up HA .

Thanks,

Naveed
