Why can't I edit my own thread?

Why can't I edit a thread that I started (all I want to do is to uncheck the "Mark this thread as a question")? I can edit my replies to the thread but not the first post.

Cheers,

Ramki Maley.

So I only have fifteen minutes to change it. Did not notice it on my last thread I started.

I see you answered your own question then.

But what do you do if you notice something after the fifteen minutes?

Post a reply to your thread.

So to fix a spelling mistake, I need to post a reply pointing out the mistake and correcting it??

We did add a spell check to the editor here? Most are ok with the occasional spelling error.

Well, maybe.

But the question remains: why is there special editing logic for the first post only?

Abuse in the system.

Post a thread as a place holder, go find the anwser come back and edit post to look as though I was the first to answer.

Mollified I am.

Hi Rob,

I can confirm what Craig has stated, and it was not just spelling mistakes.

There were some folks going around updating their questions (for example when the requirement was counter-questioned) and others who deleted their question once they had the answer.

The famous "Why 'x'", was answered with a "Why not 'x'"...

Cheers,

Julius

PS: What is your favourite colour?

As soon as Craig said it, it made perfect sense. I saw some of those posting myself.

Sometimes quoting the exact text being responded to also helps... lest it change...

It was a trick question.

Actually, I had never tried quoting.

Consider me tricked.

When I was in first year university, my roommate and I would sometimes play chess. The loser would buy the winner a candy bar.

Not once did I ever get the candy.

Maybe someone else would like to take up the challenge, though.

LOL. Well not I. I failed at Chinese Checkers in elementary school and spent inordinate amounts of time trying to get the best of Snoopy in the early '80's (a commodore game). Still, if stubbornness qualifies, I think there are a few creatures out there who will "never" give up. I loved David Brannan's wack a mole reference.

The color purple that's very political. I would have said "rainbow" to be inclusive.

Hmmmm... so how could this guy edit his thread 3 hours later?

We'd have to wait for our Forum expert to weigh in but I there are a couple of exceptions such as no replies yet posted, if they are a moderator or not, etc.

Two possible explainations I can think of are:

- There are seperate clocks used,

- The time was changed, instead of (for example) deleted.

Looks like he changed before the first reply came in.

Cool, thanks for clearing that up.
