Hello Friends,
What is gap analysis?
Can someone give a specific example for gap analysis.
Thank you
Tarun,
Gap analysis is the study of the differences between two different information systems or applications (ex; existing system or legacy system with Client and new is SAP), often for the purpose of determining how to get from one state to a new state. A gap is sometimes spoken of as "the space between where we are and where we want to be." Gap analysis is undertaken as a means of bridging that space.
Actual gap analysis is time consuming and it plays vital role in blue print stage.
The Gaps can differ from company to company. Most commonly, however, missing functionality is industry-specific.
Examples
In customer master data the client requirement needs legacy customer number which can be solved with User exit.
In sales order we need customer Phone number, we can use user exit
If client want new field in customer master like nearest fire station.
GAP analysis is done in Blue Print stage. It aims to understand what can be done with the standard SAP and how the client actually wants a particular scenario to be processed.
Its an understanding of the GAP between the actual & required scenarios.
Tthe difference between agreed work and completed work is GAP Analysis.
E.g.: To Fill This Gap, We Use The Enhancements,These Enhancements Divided Into Exits, Like User exits, Field Exits Screen Exits & Menu Exits. These Enhancements are used to update the standard program in its Respective Business Transactions, Used as a Gateway to Meet the Client Requirements.

Hi Tarun,
Gap analysis is
Formal means to identify and correct gaps between desired levels and actual levels of performance
Used by organizations to analyze certain processes of any division of their company
Gaps are indicators of corrective action and improvements
The marketing research team of Parasuraman, Zeithamel, and Berry created this service quality measuring tool in 1988
Has been used in a wide range of studies including fields such as health care, banking, appliance repair, and many other professions
Five Gaps include
Customer expectations vs. managerial perceptions
Manageru2019s expectations of quality vs. quality specs
Communication with customer at point of service or sale
Service delivery vs. communication
Perceived services vs. expected services
SERVQUAL is not a measurement to compare and rank separate companies but only to provide a measure for managers to determine actions needed in their own services
For info regarding Gap analysis U can Google it by name SERQUAL.
Hope this will help you.
Reward point if helpful.
Thanks,
Raja

Dear Tarun
A through gap analysis will identify the gaps between how the business operates ad its needs against what the package can can't do. For each gap there will be one of three outcomes which must be recorded and actioned, GAP must be closed and customised software can be developed close the gap, GAP must be closed but software cannot be written therefore a workaround is required, GAP does not need to be closed.
In simple terms: Gap means small cracks. In SAP world. In information technology, gap analysis is the study of the differences between two different information systems or applications( ex; existing system or legacy system with Client and new is SAP), often for the purpose of determining how to get from one state to a new state. A gap is sometimes spoken of as "the space between where we are and where we want to be." Gap analysis is undertaken as a means of bridging that space.
Actual gap analysis is time consuming and it plays vital role in blue print stage
thanks

Gap analysis is the study of the differences between two different information systems or applications, for example existing system or legacy system with client and new SAP system; often for the purpose of determining how to get from one state to a new state. Gap Analysis is undertaken as a means of bridging that space. It plays vital role in Business Blueprint [AS IS Process] stage.
A through Gap Analysis will identify the gaps between how the business operates and its needs against what the package can or can't do. For each gap there will be one of three outcomes which must be recorded and actioned,
1. GAP must be closed and customized software can be developed
2. GAP must be closed but software cannot be written therefore a workaround is required
3. GAP does not need to be closed.
As an example,
I) Client requirements: one specific automatic storage location for each material
Solution: In picking automatic process, SAP can handle one type of storage location for each material. Therefore storage location will be manually changed.
GAPS: None
II) Client requirements:
client requirements: Promotion of free-goods 'Buy one get 2 different products free'
GAPS: configuration not possible in standard SAP.
Client wants Gaps to be closed. So this is done through modifications in SAP program.
