Hi Friends,
The item division field in the sales doc type allows us to vary division from header and item level of a sales document. What would happen if this field is checked?

You are wrong in saying that "The item division field in the sales doc type allows us to vary division from header and item level of a sales document".
What it does is that division assigned to the material master record is copied into sales order basing on your selection.
If you place check mark against this field, division assigned to the material is copied into sales order.
