Common or seperate SLDs

What is the use of maintaining the common SLD for two PI systems and what about the seperate SLDs.

Hi,

If you use two SLDs then you need to copy the content from the one SLD to the another SLD for anykind of transports betweens them. Generally it happen between Devel SLD to Prod. SLD or Quality SLD. Both have to be identical, so both XI (and all other systems) have to be available in both SLDs.

If you have just one SLD, it should run in an high availability area (like the prod XI).

Both XI (and all other systems) must point to it (apply correct settings in RZ70).

The advantage of having one SLD is less effort of maintanence. The disadvantage is, when one guy deletes any entry, it influences directly the prod system.

Look at OSS notes numbers 720717 and 721548. This describes the proces to go to one SLD.

The point to note here is that, if yougo for a common SLD for DEV as well as QA systems, you must make sure that the Service User passwords on both these systems are exactly the same.

You can use the SAP note #936093 to check/maintain the passwords in both the systems.

Two slds:

Advantage:

Decentralized format so less manual error.

Disadv:

Transporting

One SLD:

more manual error but no need to transport all the time.
