Master Data & Data Migration in PS

Hi All,

Can you please brief me about the Master data in PS.

Also how to move the data from legacy to PS.My client has only excel sheets pls advice.

Hi,

Master data in PS is

1. Standard Templates for WBS, network

2. Workcenters

You can use BDC, LSMW to upload data from excel to SAP. Take help from your ABAPer.

The main master data in PS are specified earlier.

YOu can use BDC upload program which can be developed based on the Projecst that you want to define- Bu you need help from ABAP.

Like earlier suggested you can use LSMW tool to upload the data. You need to go into the tcode LSMW and create Project and follow the steps

1. TCode : LSMW.

2. Enter Project name, sub project name and object name.

Execute.

3. Maintain object attributes.

Execute

select Batch Input recording

goto->Recording overview

create

recording name.

enter transaction code.

start recording

do recording as per ur choice.

save + back.

enter recording name in lsmw screen.

save + back

Now there will be 14 steps.

2. MAINTAIN SOURCE STRUCTURES.

Here you have to enter the name of internal table.

display change

create

save + back

3. MAINTAIN SOURCE FIELDS.

display change

select structure

source_fields->copy fields.

a dialogue window will come .

select -> from data file

apply source fields

enter No. of fields

length of fields

attach file

save + back

4. MAINTAIN STRUCTURE RELATIONS

display change

save + back

5. MAINTAN FIELD MAPPING & CONVERSION RULE

display change

click on source field, select exact field from structue

and enter

repeat these steps for all fields.

6. MAINTAIN FIXED VALUES, TRANSACTION, USER DEFINED

7. SPECIFY FILES.

display change

click on legacy data

attah flat file

give description

select tabulatore

enter

save + back

8. ASSIGN FILE

execute

display change

save + back

9. IMPORT DATA.

execute

display change

save + back

10. DISPLAY IMPORTED DATA

enter ok, it willl show records only.

11. CONVERT DATA

execute

display change

save + back

12. DISPLAY CONVERTED DATA

execute

display change

13. CREATE BATCH INPUT SESSION

tick keep batch input folder

14. RUN BATCH INPUT SESSION.

sm35 will come

Dear Deepak,

Thanks for the answar.It is really helpfull for me during data upload.

I need Master data template,if u can send me then it will be great.

My project requirements will vary from one project to other,so i dont prefer to create Standard structures,pls advice.In this case what will be my master data.

Hi Muzamil

I didnt understand what you mean by the master data template. In LSMW you can create different projects/subproject for a set of WBS elements. If there is avariation I mean in the fields that get updated then you need o create another Project/sub project and so on.
