What is the main purpose of Import Manager in MDM? what are the functions it perform?
Hi Sree nivas,
Import manager is the tool through which the data is imported into MDM.
Import manager has Five Tabs under it.
.Source Preview
Source Preview tab in Import Manager contains two subpanes. The Left subpane Tables contains the list of tables in the Import file and the Right subpane Records provides a view of the records of selected source table. The source preview tab provides a view to each source table with a row for each record and a column for each field. Source preview tab comes enabled by default as the Import Manager is opened.
Partition Field\Value
MDMu2019s partitioning mechanism allows you to combine two or more fields into field combinations and underlying values into a corresponding set of value combinations.
In Partition field you can partition any field value by any other field by selecting from the current source table from form the available field list on the left side of the tab. Partition is very useful to decide how the data should get stored in MDM.
Pivoting
Pivot Table
Pivoting is the restructuring mechanism of Import Manager. The records and fields of a source table can be completely restructured using the pivot mechanism of the MDM Import Manager. Pivot Table rearranges the fields and attributes of a source structure so that it can be imported into the fields and attributes of a regular table. Pivot Table converts the dissimilar data values of one or more fields into the field names which increases the number of fields and reduces the number of rows.
The fields by which to pivot consist of an individual field of metadata and an individual field of data, which together comprise a single pair of corresponding source fields.
Pivot Table Collapse duplicates of each product record in the source table into a single record and rearranges the corresponding data values from one or more other source fields within the new fields.
Map Field/Values
Here the source fields and their respective values are mapped to the appropriate target fields(Repository fields) and their values.
Match Records
Matching source records against existing destination records is.
Import Status.Import the records on the basis of Match records and selection.

Hi Sreenivas,
MDM Import Manager is used to import the data from various source systems to
MDM.
what are the functions it perform?
Import manager enables to convert the source structure to destination structure using
lot of options it has.(Partiiong, splitting, pivoting ,lookup and joins..........).
Import manager enables to map the source structure to destination structure using
field mapping and value mapping inorder to import.
Import manager enables us to select match field (Generally display field) to know
whether source records already existied in the destination or not.
Import manager shows us wheter the source records are matched to destination
records using its matching type such as NONE,EXACT,PARTIAL.CONFLICT.
and finally enables us to select import actions(SKIP,CREATE,UPDATE) according
to the need of import.
Hope it helps
Thanks
Narendra

Hi
Import mgr is used for importing master data as well as refernce data from different source systems into MDM.we can do field mapping/value mapping/conversion etc, Matching based on key/unique fields before import to find out which data already exist in MDM.refer to import mgr reference guide for details.

Ravi
