What is definition of Master Data?
Regards,
VM
Master data is the central information source for a company. All SAP components access this data. By integrating master data in central database objects, you can avoid data redundancy. SAP components use data from the individual master data records for most transactions.
Master data are basically required to to run companies day to day business without much efforts.
For example if you want to create a purchase order , you need material master, vendor master, so these are the master to create a purchase order .

Hi
Master data in SAP is that data which doesnot changes over a longer period of time.
This includes material master in MM, customer master in SD,vendor master , equipment master in PM etc

hi
In SAP there are few types of data..
1. Master data:
2. Transaction data
3. Configuration data
Master data for different for different SAP modules. this master data will be copied for various Business process tranactions
Example: BOM (Bill of Material)
A BOM will have Header material and its components materials with their quantities.
when a Production order is created, system copies the BOM of Header material for Issue during Priduction order execution.
Like that, there will be master data like Routings, Material Masters, Inspection Plans, characteristics, Vendors, customers.... etc
hope it helps
Thanks
JK
