AIX and Printers

Dear All, I have a question on Printers in SAP. Currently we are running R/3 and we are using Infoprint as our Output Management System (OMS) for several years now. I am not sure why InfoPrint was selected as the choice for OMS in R/3. We are evaluating to see if we can eliminate InfoPrint and just use the AIX Print/Spool Management when we upgrade to ECC. We have some bar code Printing from SAP. Does AIX provide all the capabilities for Printing from SAP ECC (Netweaver). Please let me know. Any reference to supporting document is appreciated. Thanks

I don't know about bar code printing but we use AIX spooler for our printers and they are configured via AIX SMIT... we have never had any issues beside finding drivers for odd brands of printers...
