Dear All,
We are aware of the configuration required for creating Alert category using ALRTCATDEF . But need to know whnether there are any other Pre Configuration steps that needs to be taken into account before going for configuring alert categories.
I have two doubts
1> Is SCOT related configuration required ?
2> Do we need the CCMS configuration also in place before going for the alerts.
Thanks

Hi
Basically in short : SCOT is a Tcode to send emails from your Abap system to external system.
So if you are going to sent email from your R/3 system you have to configure SCOT
In SAPconnect administration (transaction SCOT), choose Settings ® Device Types for Format Conversion.
Specify for each printer-dependent format (PDF, PCL, PS and TXT) the device type that is to be used for the formatting.
A list of the device types available can be found in SAPNet note 8928. This list is continually updated.
It is indicated in the list whether a format is specified as an output format for a node.
Do we need the CCMS configuration also in place before going for the alerts
--> For Email alerts you need CCMS configuration.

2. Yes, but For Email alerts you need CCMS configuration.

For alerts you need.
SCOT:- for email purpose(schedule a job and give smtp mail host)
SU01:- assign the email address to the fix recipient
ALRTCATDEF:-Give the message and the fixed recipient
ALRTRULE(in case if no bpm): to give the scenario information.
ALRTINBOX:- for purpose of personalisation

Hi,
If u need to send the Alert in Email then u have to do the SCOT related configurations.
If ur doing normal Alert then there is no need for CCMS configurations.
Check some links to create an Alert.
You have to do SMTP Configuration for EMail and SMS.....
