Blog "Service Desk configuration guide for dummies" (/people/federico.babelis2/blog/2006/04/14/service-desk-configuration-guide-for-dummies)

is an excellent document for service desk configuration.

However, above blog has NOT mentioned IBASE at all.

What is the relationship between IBASE and service desk conf.?

Thanks!

Hi CZ,

The Installed Base is the Service Desk's CMDB. Once you have established a correct system landscape, you can use DSWP to fill your ibase with component information. This information is used by the Service Desk transaction to determine SAP Attribute data, such as the installation number, system name, client and type. You can also use it to build service and warranty records associated with satellite systems.

In addition the ChaRM functionality relies heavily on a correctly filled ibase component in order to determine transport routes and the like.

Hope this helps

All the best,

Patrick

Thanks !

But why the mentioned link did not say anything about the IBASE? Will it work?

Hi,

Ibase components are the identification for the systems in the landscape.

For working in service desk you definitly need Ibase to be created.

Hi again,

I can only guess as to why Federico chose to leave out the installed base configuration, but a good guess is that he didn't cover the subject because the installed base is not essential for the functioning of the Service Desk. Once you get to the point that you want to gather satellite system information for, for example, OSS message transmission it will be more important.
