MI70 - mixed landscape NUC<--> UC

We need to know if with MI70 we can have the so called 'mixed scenarios' so for example the R/3 backend Non Unicode with the middleware Unicode or viceversa.

We remember in MI25 it was not possible to have mixed scenarios.

Hi Roberto,

no, mixed scenarios is not recommended by SAP. It is still the same: If you have a Unicode Backend you need a unicode MW - and the same for nonunicode off course.

Thanks Oliver.

But if we try to install the NTW04s ABAP+JAVA on Windows the flag 'unicode' is selected by default and it is not possible to deselect it....

Any advise ?

The NTW04s SR3 allows only UNICODE installation.

Note 717510 says the mixed scenario is not a restriction anymore, as long as the RFC connection can handle the proper informations.

The workaround should be to setup the NW04s SR2 NUC.

There is no documentation in Oss on that issue.

Obviously if is supported the mixed scenario for MI70 and we can use the unicode middleware from the begin it's better as in the future the backend will go to unicode as well.

any advise?

Hi,

that was new - in the past it was: both need to run on the same - unicode or non unicode... Sorry.

For this - it makes some sence. The unicode MI can handle all code pages it gets - so whatever data you send it is ok for the unicode MW and it can handle it. So I think it is the same like in the XI installation, where the mapping to the codepage of the receiving system can be done in the RFC installation and so it is fine. In that case, just make sure that the definition of the outbound RFC from MW to backend is correct - then it will work.

Sorry for the confusion earlier - as I said, that was then an old information.

Oliver
