I want to understand the purpose of the product planning table . Is there some website or document other than SAP Help where i can get some information.

PPT is used mostly in repetative mfg scenario's where you want to plan he materials and the load on resources simultaneously.

Also, you can take a look at the PP/DS best practices and SCM Release Notes for useful information apart from the standard SAP help portal.
