Hi,

With the usage type PI, you can Integrate Applications from ONE or Multiple Systems. SAP NetWeaver differentiates between the following areas:

1) Cross-system application integration, which does not focus on individual end-user actions.

Applications can be company-internal, cross-company, SAP or non-SAP applications. The SAP

NetWeaver usage type PI incorporates all functions that were previously a part of SAP Exchange

Infrastructure (SAP XI).

2) The Modeling, Administration, and Automation of user-driven processes within SAP systems. From a

technical viewpoint, a core function of the runtime is that you can save the state of a previously-

modeled process and call it up at a later stage, if the process is to be continued as a result of a

particular action or event. Since the execution of processes can be useful when integrating

applications across system boundaries (without user actions), relevant functions within SAP

NetWeaver are reused for this purpose. Together, the functions referred to here are known as

Business Process Management.

Please go through the link which expalins you the usage of PI

PI is nothing but Process Integration. As XI is represented in the Process Integration layer of the Netweaver Stack, it is now PI.

There is no difference between XI 3.0 and PI 7.0. In order to bring all Netweaver releases in line with each other, SAP has released XI as PI. Now it is a part of NetWeaver 2004s.

For each SP of XI 3.0 a similar release is being made in 2004s too

A comparision of the service packs in 2004 and 2004s;

in 2004 - in 2004s

SP12 & < - SP04

SP13 + 14 - SP05

SP15 - SP06

SP16 - SP07

SP17 - SP08

SP18 - SP09

There is no final difference between XI 3.0 and PI 7.0. In order to bring all netweaver releases on par with each other , SAP released / renamed XI as PI and it is a part of NW04s

For every release of PI 7.0, there is a parallel Support Pack on XI.

Hi,

PI is nothing but Process Integration. As XI is represented in the Process Integration layer of the Netweaver Stack, it is now PI.

There is no difference between XI 3.0 and PI 7.0. In order to bring all Netweaver releases in line with each other, SAP has released XI as PI. Now it is a part of NetWeaver 2004s.

I hope this clarifies.

SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1 (SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1)

You can use the ES Repository and Registry with SAP NetWeaver PI and take full advantage of the process integration capabilities of SAP NetWeaver and leverage the benefits of the Integration Directory and Integration Server. With the ES Repository, you can start modeling your business process and designing your interfaces, data types and mappings for the message exchange.

SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment 7.1 (SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1)

SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment 7.1 offers full service provisioning capabilities, also for those who need to work with a lean development environment and do not focus on process integration. For those customers, the ES Repository and Registry offers capabilities for service provisioning and consumption.

An another interesting aspect here is the Usage profiles - The usage profiles helps you customize the tool to the use case you are working with. You can either choose to work with Service Definition mode (as in the case of CE) or Process Integration (when you are working with PI scenarios).

XI Vs PI

There is not much difference between XI 3.0 with latest Service Pack i.e. 20 or 21 and PI 7.0

The main difference between 3.0 and 7.0 is the GUI in SLD. But, it is pretty easy to adopt. All other components, e.g. IR, ID, RWB, should virtually be identical.

7.0 also contain some SCM contents not available from 3.0. For most of us, this is a non-issue.

In 7.0 we can schedule a background job and edit the payload.

XI3.0 is based on WAS(web application server)6.40 - NW2004

PI7.0 is based on WAS(web application server)7.0 - NW2004's

Service packs in 2004 and 2004s;

in 2004 - in 2004s

SP12 & < - SP04

SP13 + 14 - SP05

SP15 - SP06

SP16 - SP07

SP17 - SP08

SP18 - SP09

If u look into the architectural diagram of PI 7.1, then it will give u an idea. http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi71/helpdata/en/53/fe48b44c5e4bcab5c71fdcf3ee9bc7/content.htm

Hi,

XI/PI

PI 7.0 works on WEBDYNPRO .

They are basically the same technically but when SAP launched Netweaver 2004s , to bring all objects of Netweaver 2004s in Synch with the WAS version, XI was renamed to Process Integration (PI 7.0) .

All new features for XI 7.0 are almost same as for XI 3.0 at least till SPS 19.

Reward if it is useful..

Thanks,
