hi,
in MS SQL / windows platform we need to bring up the database server before the application server (i think so), but in as/400 i only need to bring up the instance then SAP system will be up which is much more simpler.
in windows / unix platform .. i see 3 parts, OS, Database & Application. in as/400 i only see OS ...
so in as/400 how do i check if the database and the application server are up ? any particular subsystem to check ? or any command to run ?
comment and advice will be highly appreciated.

Hi,
i5/OS has an inbuilt database DB2 400 ( DB4)
when you perform IPL and restart the system , database is started automatically.
to check whether any SAP application server is running or not
execute following command
login with SIDOFR user
wrkactjob sbs(r3_<instance_nr>)
suppose your R3 system instance number is 00 then command is
wrkactjob sbs(r3_00)
after executing command you can find that whether sap process are running under subsystem R3_00 or not.

Hi Kent,
If you're really as new to this platform as you appear to be it might make sense to contact IBM's education services about the course "SAP Solutions on System i ". You can find a course description at http://www-304.ibm.com/jct03001c/services/learning/ites.wss/us/en?pageType=course_description&course...
All the best,
