Hi,

we are planning to install SAP on Windows 2003 and Oracle,when went to service market place to download the sofware DVD's we had confusion of downloading the correct software.

for example: "NW 7.0 SR3 Kernel 7.00 Windows Server on x64 64bit"

The X64 64bit menitoed above is for Hardware or the OS .i mean we have windows 2003 os of 32 bit and 64 bit and also processors of 32 bit and 64 bit.

Hi,

x64 64bit -> indicate 64 bit OS

to run 64 bit OS you required hardware ( motherboard + CPU ) which support 64 bit OS.

Hi kaushal,

thanks for your reply,but if i am not wrong X64 is architecure of processor which is otherwise called as X86_64.

X86 =X86_32 = IA32 for 32 bit architecture(Amd or intel)

X86_64=X64 = Architecture of 64 bit Processor(Amd or intel)

IA64 = specific to intel itanium processor (its intel specific)

can you confirm again

Hi,

yes you are right

X86 =X86_32 = IA32 for 32 bit architecture(Amd or intel)

X86_64=X64 = Architecture of 64 bit Processor(Amd or intel) AMD64 or Intel EM64T

IA64 = specific to intel itanium processor -> This is a 64-bit microprocessor architecture designed by Intel and Hewlett-Packard, implemented by processors such as Itanium and Itanium 2

further check Note 931024 - FAQ: 64-bit platforms for Windows

Hi kaushal,

So in "NW 7.0 SR3 Kernel 7.00 Windows Server on x64 6$bit" the X64 represents to processor and not the O.S right.

Hi,

yes you can say that,

but if you have 64 bit processor and you install windows 2003 32 bit os on that then in this case you can not use

NW 7.0 SR3 Kernel 7.00 Windows Server on x64 64bit

in short 64 bit kernel required 64 bit OS

But please use 64 Bit operating system if you have a 64 hardware.

on 32 Bit OS you will run in a configuration marathon for optimizing SAP and database parameters in order to keep the system running.
