logon balancing error88 (Rc=9) needs urgent fix

Hi,

When we are trying to logon to sap its showing logon balancing error88 (Rc=9)

Some users are able to login..

but for some it works for some time and then again throws the error.

We have checked all entires in service file ..its perfect.

we have tried by giving fully qualiifed domain name it works for some time and suddenly goes off , then we have to change to to SAP<SID> then it works.

It seesm that this is a problem with domain level

We are using SAP Logon 640 with patch level 24 on WIn with Oracle.

IThanks

Rahul

Hi Jay,

There are two ways of logging on to the SAP system when there are logon groups configured.

1) Obviously configuring the SAPGUI to use the logon group as defined in SMLG transaction code

2) Using the instance number and the IP address or fully qualified domain name.

Now, check the SAPGUI configuration of the two users who is able to logon and the other user who is not able to logon. You can find out the difference by the ICON itself of the respective SAPGUI.

Also there could be a problem in the DNS server itself:- this happens if this is not correctly configured or this situation might occur during the failover in the HA scenarios.

Give me furthur details to analyse the problem if the above comments are not enough to take care of your problem on hand.

Hi. Can you explain more in detail ? for examle what means "then we have to change to to SAP<SID> then it works". First in SAP if you use SAPGUI you need to use latest PL for this : Go to ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sapgui/win/640/patches/

or http:
service.sap.com\swdc

and implement latest patch. After ten such error has started to appear? Are you use Domain, and this Server and PC in them? Are you change anything in domain or this server in last time? That you see in sm21 and in traces (st11) ?

P.S. read Note 882741 - SAP Logon: "Logon balancing error", service 'sap...' unknown and are you (and other users have antivirus software ?) read about QHOST-1 virus.

Also good if you read how in this forum you need to award helpfull answers (like Markus answer to you) it's not so hard.

Regards.
