I have a system (7.6.00) with VOLUMENO_BIT_COUNT set to its default value of 8.
I've done a complete backup and am trying to restore the backup to a 7.6.03 instance configued with VOLUMENO_BIT_COUNT = 6.
The command:
db_activate RECOVER mediumname
Completes sucessfully, but when I try to also recover an incremental backup, or if I try to go online, I get a kernel exit with this message in knldiag:
2008-05-21 21:05:16 10866 ERR 20038 Converte Unauthorized modification of configuration parameter VOLUMENO_BIT_COUNT from 8 to 6
Is this kind of conversion disallowed, or am I missing a step?
Thanks.

Jon,
this behavior is unfortunately not intended and will be fixed in an upcoming release.
There is no workaround for it, besides fixing internal structures on the backup file or just use additional but smaller data volumes.

Henrik
