hi ,
in oracle folder, we have two arch files,
ORAARCH AND SAPARCH.
can anybody tell me what excatly gets stored in these folders.
i.e., what gets stored in oraarch directory (which files, etc,)
what gets stored in saparch directory .
usually depends on the oracle release....
9i and smaller -> saparch only (offline redolog files + backup logs)
10g -> oraarch for the offline redolog files and saparch for the backup logfiles

Hello all,
a little clarification, the oraarch is not only existing in 10g.
It depends on the SAP release 8do not have the details, but it can be found if needed)
The reason I was given for the differentiation was related to archive stuck situations.
In "older" SAP versions, if you have an archive stuck situation and you try to run BRARCHIVE to solve it, BRARCHIVE could fail as there was no space on saparch to store the log file.
In newer releases both directories should be in different filesystems. If you have an archive stuck situation (oraarch full) you can run BRARCHIVE to solve it as it saves the logs on saparch

The heart file of the database is control file, the control file is multiplexed in various locations saparch, oraarch, sapdata1, for the recovery purposes.
The redologs are stored in the oraarch directory also.
