Hi Experts,
I am planning to install two sap R/3 4.7 ext200 SR1 instances on windows 2003. I already installed DEV instance & planning for QAS.
I am confused about how to install two ORACLE softwares on single windows host.
I search on internet there for windows they are pointing to the registry value
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software\Oracle\inst_loc.
I am not able to understand what I have to do with this ?
Can you please help me to understand & execute this.
Thanks,
Sachin
Hi,
no need to install two oracle software on same host.
you can perform MCOD installation.
check Note 388866 - Multiple Components on One Database - Installation
Note 28392 - Two R/3 Systems on one Windows NT Server
if you are not going for MCOD installation then check following (i.e install two oracle )

Hi,
check 98252 - Installing two Oracle databases on a host
Note 350251 - Creating a New or 2nd Oracle SID with runInstaller
i already provide the link to forum which is for ECC and BW on same host but not with mcod.
further just read the section about multiple oracle homes in the installation guide

Hi,
check the installation document.
when you install second instance i.e QAS instalaltion specify the new oracle home for that.
i.e <DRIVE>:\ORACLE\<DBSID>\<ORA_VERS>, for example,
to install multiple oracle check following
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10500_01/em.920/a96697/moh.htm

Hi,
if you want to use new oracle then you have to run oracle installer and define new oracle home for your second instance.
i already provide the link how to do that.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10500_01/em.920/a96697/moh.htm
read Creating an Oracle Home

why install two oracle software,or that you should do is create another database instance and import the installation export.

Hi Sachin,
Installation of two oracle home on single host is possible, just keep the directory different.
oracle/<SID>/<version>
You will have to install the oracle binaries again if you are creating a new oracle home.
I see that you want to keep the services different for DEV and QAS. You will not have any problem with the oracle process and services since these are <SID> db instance specific. Only problem will be with the listener services for both instance.
Go thru this note to configure multiple listener services on same host

Hi Nilesh,
Thanks for the information.
One more doubt I have about the Inventry location & the entry of the Inventory in windows registry under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\KEY_DEV102
At time of installation this enry will over write or it will create new enry ?
I am assuming as it will over write so I am chagning the new inventory path to C:\Program Files\ORALE_1\Inventory.
Because of this it will create the entry in registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE_1\KEY_QAS102
I am not sure about the above registry entry.
Please correct me.
Thanks & Regards,
Sachin Sable
Hi Sachin,
Why you want to create two oracle homes ?
Is both Oracle versions are different ?
If you are planning for two database like 1. for QAS and 1 for DEV than there will be two database and two sap admin user i.e. devadm and qasadm and this both user have access two different database.

Nikunj Thaker.
Sachin,
Go throuth this link to understand more about Oracle Inventory and Oracle Homes software update.
http://cs.ifmo.ru/~ad/Documentation/oracle-10g-lib-doc/em.101/b12140/3_oui_oracle_homes.htm#i1005634
The current entry is picked from the PATH vairable of the system and user that you have logged on. This is because you have already done 1 Oracle Installation on the host.
Keep in mind that you choose the correct oracle home while installing and in future updating Oracle software (patchset, Interim Pactches...)
You can give a seperate path for Oracle Inventory. Just go thru to the existing folder of OraInventory in Program files you will understand it better.
It is used to install and update the Oracle software in the oracle home that you will choose in your next step.
All the Best,
Nilesh
