Hello colleagues,
I've deployed the following content of MDM 55 SP03 delivery to portal:
a. com.sap.mdm.tech.mdm4j.sda
b. com.sap.mdm.tech.connector.sda
c. BPMDMTECHN00_0.sca
d. BPMDMAPPLI00_0.sca
Then I created MDM system in Portal, arranged mapping but I couldn't
connect to MDM server using Connection test.
The MDM server is ip and running, port number in Portal is correct,
versions of deployed JAVA API and MDM connector fit to MDM server, user
mapping is correct too.
I actually have no idea what is the problem.
Are there any authorization requirements while connecting from EP to MDM Server?
Thanks and regards,
Konstantin.
so many things in this forum message... now i really do not know what and all i need to do and what are not worth investing.
can someone kindly guide us as to what has to be done stepwise?

Naresh

When I used the attached par file instead of template to establish the system it functioned.
Thanks for all help.

Hi all,
I've found out that it was a problem with multilanguage repository. I have 2 languages defined in repository (Russian and English), some of metadata had either Russian or English names. For MDM Data Manager (Client) it's OK, but when I create System definition in Portal and define Schema language all metadata (Tables, fileds etc) have to have name in this language.
Best regards,
Konstantin.

Hi all.
Can you please go through the following process, just to eliminate the possibility that your problems are caused by User Mapping problem?
1. Go inside the portal, and go to User Administration.
2. Go to User Mapping.
3. In the search box write "Eve*" and find the group "Everyone".
4. Click on "Edit" on the "Everyone" group's record.
5. Map "Everyone" to the MDM Repository alias (choose it from the combo-box), and specify the username and password for that repository.
6. Click Save.
Now, try connecting again, and let me know what you get.
Regards,
Nir

No change, same thing happens
Results form connection test:
Retrieval of default alias successful
Connection failed. Make sure user mapping is set correctly and all connection properties are correct.
In MDM Server the user is market as connected (no activity), Application name is MDM Java API

Did you have SP02 installed before you've started using SP03?
There are some weird behaviours when installing SP03 without SP02 properly. This might be the case.
Also, don't use SP02 templates or other portal objects.
Please try to define new objects for everything.
If this doesn't work, please let me know, and try to provide log details.
Regards,
Nir
Hello Nir,
I followed the steps mentioned by you and I am stuck with the In fact step after clicking edit, the System drop down box is empty(on the right side). Infact I don't see any change in the portal content if edit is clicked or not it is same. I don't see any MDM Repository alias combo; neither the username and password fields!!!
I did create the System Object, as that was defined in the Business Package PDF guide.
Please help.
Best regards,
Dharmi
Hi Dharmi.
It seems like you did not create a system alias.
Please follow these easy steps to do so:
1. In the portal, go to <i>System Administration</i>.
2. Choose System <i>Configuration</i> -> <i>System Landscape</i>, and find your system in the tree.
3. Right-Click on your system and choose <i>Open</i> -> <i>System Aliases</i>.
4. In the <i>Alias</i> text box, write down your chosen alias, and click the <i>Add</i> button.
5. Click <i>Save</i>.
That's it.
You should now go to the <i>User Mapping</i> screen again. This time you should find the alias you've just created in the combo box.
Regards,
Nir
Hello Nir,
Thanks for your quick response. I indeed did not have the System Aliases, I added that. When I went to the user mapping screen then I do see the system filled with the Alias that I gave but also the following warning:
"There is a configuration issue which leads to problems when accessing user mapping data for the selected backend system 'MDM_Repository_InqueraDemo'. Usually, the reason is user mapping being configured for strong encryption, but the necessary additional files being missing. Check the security log file for further information and hints on how to solve the problem."
How do I resolve this? Thanks much. Also the user field is Disabled!
Best regards,
Dharmi

Hello Nir,
In connection Tests, when I try to test I get the following results:
Retrieval of default alias successful
Connection failed. Make sure user mapping is set correctly and all connection properties are correct.
Any ideas how to resolve this? I followed the user mapping you mentioned.
Best regards,
Dharmi
Dharmi,
can you share what you've done to get it working ??
I did have the same issue in the past, and solved it by installing the SAP JAVA CRYPTO TOOLKIT on the portal server.
On the download centre (http://service.sap.com/swdc) there is a link to "SAP Cryptographic Software". Make sure you read the messages and get the correct files.
Still interested in your solution Dharmi !!
Frank
Hello Frank,
I followed the note mentioned by Nir and set the UME settings to True.
I had mapped only the group, I then mapped the user has well. Also the username is case sensitive I believe or may be the MDM server was down cos that changes I made simultaneously and that worked.
Best regards,
Dharmi
Hello Nir,
I have to connect EP with MDM server, both being on different servers. I have installed the .sda's and sca's on the server where EP is installed but when I try to make the system connection as I did earlier it fails resulting in "Failed to connect to MDM server. Check your system. The server may be down or there may be an error in one or more of your system parameters"
Do i need to install MDM client on the EP server or something else?? Please advice.
I look forward to your quick response (please).
Many thanks,
Dharmi
No need to install either - most probably this there could be a version compatability issue - you must ensure using the latest MDM server, and that the latest par have been delpoyed. I have cases where installing an updated MDM server ontop of an older version still keeps some "old" stuff from the original version. if you are doing this best that you first remove the MDM (use the unwise.exe utility found in the MDM server - this will remove all regisrty and other stuff) then install a claead version of MDM. if you want to check the the connectivty from the EP box to the MDM box is fine, you can temporarly install the Console on the EP box, and see if you can connecto the MDM server - this is was is done when you create a system wizard for the MDM server - if that works, then you know that the porblem is not conncetion, but else where.
KEvin.
Hello Kevin,
Thank you very much for your response and a Happy New Year. As per your suggestion:
1. Tech guy tried to uninstall and install. No Luck....
2. I installed the MDM console on the EP box and that works fine but when trying to connect the system object of type MDM Server no luck....
So the problem doesn't seem to be connection but then what???
I look forward to your response.
Best regards,
Dharmi
Hi,
If you have assigned a system alias and did completed defining user Mapping (between the EP user or group and a valid MDM user name and password) and run the connection test for the same user mapped above it should have work. further investigation I suggest open a CSS ticket using MDM-FN-TC component,
Kevin.
Hello Oliver,
Hapy New Year to you too. Yes, I did try with the ip address as well but no luck.
While creating the system object I see 2 options for MDM - MDM Server and MDM System. I tried with both. I however don't remember, if both the objects were present on the server where both EP and MDM were installed (unfortunately the server died )
Best regards,
Dharmi
Hi,
Are you sure you have assigned a password to server? when you connect to the server with MDM console and try any operation, are you prompted enter a password ? (I am not talking of the user and password when first launching the console client) the answer is that you probably dont have a password for the server, and hence you should not be entering one when running the system wizard.Kevin
Hello Kevin,
I am not assigning password. No, I am not prompted for password when connnecting to the MDM Console. While connecting from the MDM server system object in EP however in the second step there is name of the server and the password fields, that is what I meant in the last post. I am leaving the password field blank.
Best regards,
Dharmi
Hello Kevin,
My email address is dharmi.tanna@gmail.com. I received a message in OSS that being: "Hi,
I changed the component from MDM-FN-TC to EP-RA.

So may be you can find it under this component! Today or Wednesday morning is both fine but please do..
Many thanks,
Dharmi
Hi Nir,
Sorry for replying so late. I am following the steps given in the Business Package document.
1.I have created a system with system alias SAP_MDM_Repository_Customer(I want to connect to only customer repository) in a folder "Customer Repository".
2. I have created three groups MDM 5.5 SP3 Business Expert, MDM 5.5 SP3 MDM Admin, MDM 5.5 SP3 MD Expert
3. Then from the "Content provided by SAP" -> Specialist i am copying all the roles viz. Business Expert, Master Data Administrator, Master Data Expert. And then in the folder "Customer Repository" paste them as delta links.
4. Then in the user administration tab in the roles tab I am searching by group and adding the roles to these groups as below:
Group Role
MDM 5.5 SP3 Business Expert Business Expert
MDM 5.5 SP3 MDM Admin Master Data Administrator
MDM 5.5 SP3 MD Expert Master Data Expert
(Initially i have not adde eu_role but later i have added that also)
5. Then in the user mapping tab. I do the user mapping for the groups with the mdm repository users as below:
PortalUser Group Repository
user
mdmuser MDM 5.5 SP3 Business Expert User/pwd
mdmadmin MDM 5.5 SP3 MDM Admin Admin/pwd
mdmexpert MDM 5.5 SP3 MD Expert Expert/pwd
6. Then when i test the connection i get connection failed error.
7. When i add each roles in the "Everyone" group the connection test is successful but no data is displayed when i login with the portal user mdmuser no data is displayed.
Thats all. AFAIK i have covered every detail. Waiting for your reply.
Regards,
Jaydeep

Hi all,
please note, that the mentioned weblog / session recording is based on MDM 5.5 SP02 and especially the installation is no longer valid for SP03 !
Please refer to the guide "MDM 5.5 SP03 - Business Package" which is available in the NW'04 -> Operations section in http://service.sap.com/instguides

Andreas

Hello Konstantin
I have the same problem as you. My Portal and the MDM server runs on two different servers. I have tried to install an MDM client on my portal server, and via the MDM client one the portal server I get contact with the MDM server (so there are an connection between the servers). But from the portal I have problems. Are there anything we need to set up in MDM?

Hi Konstantin,
Can you please re-check that you've mapped the user you're using for configuration of the portal as well.
If that's not the problem, please give a detailed description of everything you've done, so I can check and see what's the problem.
Thanks and regards,
Nir

Hi Nir.
Thanks for your quick response.
I've rechecked the mapping of user that I use for configuration. It's OK.
Moreover when I try to create MDM system in portal it connects to MDM server and offers me to select MDM repository and languages. But after that I could not successfully test connection and when I create iview I got the error: "Can not connect to back-end system".
Another thing I've noticed is that after my tryings to test connection new records appear in table Logins and stay there until unloading repository.
Thanks and regards,
Konstantin.
Hi Nir,
I am using MDM SP3 iView (Business Package) and following problems. Anybody wants to share their experience.
I have installed MDM SP3 on windows. Deployed the Portal Content BPMDMAPPLI00_0.sca, BPMDMTECHN00_0.sca, Connector.sda and mdm4j.sda. Followed instructions according to Business Package for MDM SP3 documentation.
For both options, 1. Portal Content Developed for Custom Repositories 2. Business Package for Predefined Repositories.
Test connection works fine using admin or other user login.
Using both options, Picklist iview returns error, "An error occurred. See log for details".
Log shows (NW Admin Log Viewer), error:
"europede | USERMAPPING.USE | USER = USER.PRIVATE_DATASOURCE.un:europede | | uses strong encryption=[false], systemtype=[null], system=[SAP_MDM_Repository_Materials]"
where europede is Portal login that is map to 'Expert' user in MDM repository. SAP_MDM_Repository_Materials is the System name for Materials repository.
If clicked on 'Create' button, it does nothing, no error message.
In Result set iView, if clicked on Material Number to see the detail record, it throws error " An error occurred. See log for details.".
Log file message " europede | USERMAPPING.USE | USER = USER.PRIVATE_DATASOURCE.un:europede | | uses strong encryption=[false], systemtype=[null], system=[SAP_MDM_Repository_Materials]"
Also tried, to create iView by copy/paste (No delta link) SP3 MDM iView provided by SAP. But not able to Add them to page. It doesn't show the option 'Add iView to Page --> delta link'.
Thanks,
Abhay
Hi Konstantin,
Have you set your "user mapping type" to user, admin?
After creating your system you have to modify the system.
Change the attribute category from Info to user management.
There you can change the mapping type.
(That was my error and my error message was nearly the same)
regards
Oliver
I have MDM 5.5 SP03 iViews working with Material Repository.
Follow the instructions given in document "Business Package for MDM 5.5 SP3" (available on service market place).
To fix the typo error in iView "Search Picklist" for Materials, do following:
Login to Portal as admin (or portal admin).
Click on Content Administration -> Portal Content -> Content Provided by SAP -> specialist -> MDM Application -> Materials -> Search Picklist (open the iView).
Select Property category, Repository.
Click on Field Name, correct the case for the field as follows, "Allowed Packaging Volume Unit".
Save the iView.
I hope this helps.
Abhay
