Hi Asha,

Symbol creation is IMG activity, you need to specify the symbols then you need to matchup the masterdata, then your symbol will get generated and ready for use.

When creating new report symbol groups for default parameter determination, the function modules helps in symbol expansion

when you have specified the relevant table fields in the IMG activity Specify Tables for Report Symbol Generation.

. In the Basic Data and Tools menu, choose Tools -> Match Up Master Data.

2. Select Generate Symbols and execute the activity.

The system creates symbols for the entries in the IMG activities Specify Value Assignment Types and Specify Tables for Report Symbol Generation.

For Creating report templates go to Tcode CG42; then you need to create the template using different symbols, symbol groups and other controllling parameters as per your requirement;

once the template id ready; then you need to cerate a generation variant; using these two you can generate the report; thats it can be stored in report info system

Hope this information is sufficient to know abt the process

Hi Keshav,

Thanks for the info.

Can you please explain how do I specify the symbols and the relevant table fields in the IMG activity Specify Tables for Report Symbol Generation.

Does this also mean that, "Generate Symbols activity" in Matchup Master Data precedes IMG activities Specify Value Assignment Types and Specify Tables for Report Symbol Generation.

Thank you.

Hi Asha,

you specify for which tables located in SAP applications other than those in Environment, Health and Safety you want to generate symbols. Furthermore, you specify for which fields of the respective tables symbols are to be generated.

Contains a source for symbol generation. Depending on the source type, the source can be one of the following:

Table name

Value assignment type

Class

A source comprises several elements for which corresponding symbols are generated. In the case of tables, symbols are generated for the table fields. In the case of value assignment types or classes, symbols are generated for the corresponding class characteristics.

Object elements are the fields of a table or the characteristics of a class. You can use this filter to specify whether symbols are to be generated for all elements of an object.

If you only want to generate symbols for a few object elements, you can explicitly specify them. The remaining elements are not taken into account for symbol generation.

If you want to generate symbols for most of the object elements, you can explicity specify the elements to be excluded from symbol generation.
