Hi DMS gurus,

request you to clarify my doubt,

in Define data carrier there is 4 nodes present,

like: Define data carriertype Archive, Vault, Frontend System, External DMS,

and also there is define Mount points or Logical drives.

1) can we make use of all these funtionalities in one client/implementation simultaniously in a single content server installation (using Kpro tick ) can acontent server partionied suitably to meet all there requirements in one Server alone.

2) if not which are all these funtionality which can funtion together in a single content server?

3) When is External DMS funtionality made use of is it for WEB DMS if so does it require any separate server to funtion effectively or link DMS to web server

4) is the Datacarrier type and Data carriers used to link DMS in to different servers of this type, if so how is this done

5) when is the define Mount points or logical drives made use of

iam confused on this regard,

Please clarify with example or screen shots if available

Points sure for soothing answers

Thanks and regards

hi kumar,

Betterway you use frontend computer (system) as a data carrier.

set pc as data carrier and make it default. so that all pc will be accessible.

You must define a data carrier for your frontend computer.

Example: PC (PC with operating system Windows NT)

for vault:The vault is a server that can be accessed in the local network. When you save the original application file to a vault, the system assigns a new file name that is invisible. For this reason, you can only process original application files stored in a vault from the document info record.

If you are not using the Knowledge Provider for storing and checking in original application files you can only store original application files in a vault that is managed by DMS

You can also transfer the original files directly between the vault and the frontend computer using a special log. SAP recommends this method known as DVA (Direct Vault Access), because it is better for system performance reasons. DVA is not predefined in the standard system, as you need a password for the DVA user.

Prerequisites

The archive is a Secure Storage Area t hat the original files are transported to via the SAP ArchiveLink interface. The archiving process takes place on a special archive server.

You use SAP ArchiveLink as a communication interface between the Document Management System and the archiving systems. You can display the archived data using the SAP ArchiveLink viewer.

The SAP Database is a Secure Storage Area that is predefined internally in the standard SAP System. When you save an original application file to the database, the file is divided into a series of data blocks with a fixed length. You do not use this storage method for large files (for example, screen designs).

This storage method is suitable for small files (for example, text files) because all of the original application files are also stored to the database.

for above all application dont use kpro.

if you are using kpro , then use front end type.
