Updating Live Cache client software

Former Member

Hello,

To correct a bug, I was told by SAP to update the client part of my LiveCache from 7.6.03.12 to 7.6.04.11.

I followed the instructions in sap notes 649814 and 1092397. But I have a problem:

if I

launch theSDBSETUP, I have a popup saying:

Test extraction failed

Following programs are running:

SDBRUN (pid=938010)

Please stop all these processes

In my unix shell, this PID correspond to :

root 938010 483328 0 10:09:31 pts/0 0:03 /sapdb/programs/bin/../install/SDBRUN --programname SDBSETUP --main SAPDB::Install::App::StartSetup::main -splash_fast -installed_sdbrun_used

Which is the process that launches the upgrade.

If I use the SDBINST, I have a similar problem:

FRSU0010

Hi,

did you stop the application server before upgrading the client ?

I stopped the live cache via LC10. Then stopped SAP and then did a x_server stop.

If I do a DBMCLI with DB_STATE, i have :

OK

State

OFFLINE

Do I have to do something else ?

As i said it is complaining about a ruuning program which PID corresponds to itself ..

Hi,

it seems that you use the installation programs from indep_prog_path (/sapdb/programs/bin). You have to use the programs from the installation kit (sdbsetup,..) Than you won't have a conflict with the running installer itself.

good point ... it was exactly that... But where do I found the other SDBSETUP ?

As when I uncar the downloaded file I only have :

-rw-rw-r-- 1 root system 9203098 Apr 12 00:27 SAPUTL.TGZ

-rw-rw-r-- 1 root system 15539819 Apr 12 00:27 SDBBAS.TGZ

-rw-rr 1 root system 49152 May 19 15:28 SDBRDPY.TGZ

Hi,

did you try to use SDBUPD tool.

same problem occurs with SDBUPD tool also?

check Note 875662 - Importing liveCache version 7.6 to use SDBUPD.

No, I didn't try to use SDBUPD as in sap note 649814 (updating Maxd/LiveCache client software) they only mention SDBINST or SDBSETUP. Do you think I can use SDBUPD to update only the client part ?

Former Member

Hi,

yes you can use that tool also for livecache 7.6 patch.

Ok, i have searched for SDBUPD but i can't find it anywhere in the machine

There are no executables in the SAR file I have downloaded from the market place (note 649814) :

MAXDBART7604_11-20000535.SAR that contains the client software update for MAXDB.

Does anybody have a solution ?

Thanks in advance ...

Hi,

if you install live cache patch on AIX

the file name looks like

LC<Build>A50_<LCABuild>-<GUID>.SAR

download it from

service.sap.com/swdc

-> SAP Software Distribution Center

-> SAP Support Packages and Patches

-> Entry by Application Group

-> SAP Application Components | SAP NetWeaver

-> <product>

-> <product> 5.0 | SAP Netweaver 2004s

-> Entry by Component

-> SAP LiveCache

-> SAP LC/LCAPPS 5.0

-> <operating system>

uncar it with sapcar -xvf

the extracted source contain SDBUPD

if you want to use MaxDB 7.6.04 build 11

then download it from

http://service.sap.com/swcenter-3pmain

--> MaxDB and SAP DB

--> MAXDB (64-BIT)

--> MAXDB 7.6 (64-BIT)

check note 735598 to import it.

Hello,

SDBUPD can not be used to update the client software. SDBUPD is a tool for an instance update - which means that a database instance is updated to the new version. It cannot be used on an application server, where only the client software is installed.

I'll check the package on SWDC an update this thread...

Melanie

Hello again!

I downloaded file MAXDBART7604_11-20000535.SAR from SWDC. It seems to contain all files needed for the installation:

You were perfectly right Melanie. I don't know for what reason the package wasn't complete.

I downloaded it again and everything went fine

Thanks again for your help !
