Batch programs

Hi all,

I am new to batch processing in SAP, so I have some pretty basic questions I'm afraid.

I need to document how to create ABAP / some other internal/external programs that will be used for batch processing. Is there an interface or something similar that is required to implement a program that will run as a background. What do I need to think about when creating batch programs?

Any input is greatly appreciated!
