Hi,
When you switch your Oracle database from 32-bit to 64-bit, you need to execute some steps to get this working correctly.
How does this work for MaxDB?
If i switch the OS from 32bit to 64bit, can i then just install the 64-bit MaxDB software, and let it run with the old database files without modification?
I can't find any notes covering this kind of migration...
Nico
Hello Nico,
"If i switch the OS from 32bit to 64bit, can i then just install the 64-bit MaxDB software, and let it run with the old database files without modification?"
-> For the liveCache type of the database, it's NOT the correct procedure.
What is the version of the database? Is your database liveCache?
If you want to perform a system copy for an SAP liveCache instance, see
SAP notes 457425 and 632357.
-> If you are SAP customer, please review the SAP notes::
129352 Homogeneous system copy with MaxDB (SAP DB)
552464 What is Big Endian / Little Endian? What Endian do I have?
962019 Heterogeneous system copy of a MaxDB Content Server Storage
715701 Migration to SAP DB/MaxDB
-> There are SAP notes/recommendations. For example, please see the SAP note 939406.
What is OS of the database server? Are you SAP customer?
Thank you & best regards, Natalia Khlopina

Theoretically you could do that.
I would take a full database backup (in admin mode), install the operating system new (instead of upgrading) and do a system copy with a database restore.
