(1). what is the relevance of quotation in sales order cycle.
(2). as all know that quotatio carries validity periods - can i have extention of those validity periods.

Dear balaji
The simple relevance is that you can submit lot of quotations to customer but all those quotations will not be converted into sale order. So you can have a track of how many quotations are converted into sale order.

You can extend the quotation validity, in the chnge mode of the quote.

Hi,
in typical sales cycle we can use a quotation after inquiry. It signifies the business interest to supply a product for a given price and a delivery date. Apart from that it also has the validity period. Quotation is also a legally binding document on the part of business to customer. Yes, the validity can be changed / extended.
