Seed,

Are you backing up the files in this directory? These files should be backed up at regular intervals. YOu need these files for your database recovery. If you are backing them up, but it filled up before the backup started, you need to increase space for this directory. If you think the frequency of the files are unusual, check your system and see what's running & creating these logs.

Hi,

sorry for the late anwser!

Unitl now we copy the files every two weeks manually to another device bevor our space (4,5 GB) runs full. Is that a normal process? And if not how can i check my system?

regards,

Seed

Hi,

Archivelogs are constantly created when the system is in use, frequency depends on how much activity is on the system. You need to back up these files to tape so that in the event of a crash you need these files along with your database backup to recover the system to a point in time.

Hi Seed,

archiver stuck ? You're serious ...? That kind of problem really should never appear...

Well perhabs it's a good idea to read some notes like:

SAP Note 14562 BRARCHIVE - archiver stuck

SAP Note 391 Archiver stuck

and the documentation [Setting Up Archiving|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/65/96f1e4a6974512962197918624e1c5/frameset.htm].

If you have already done everything mentioned in the notes and the problem still appears, I propose you check for errors in the brarchive logs and the Oracle Alert.log.
