Can anyone tell me how to integrate an R3 system with a legacy sytem..
Hi,
you use adapters to connect XI with other systems (SAP systems, legacy, ...:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/0d/5ab43b274a960de10000000a114084/frameset.htm
For SAP systems you usually use RFC, IDoc or Proxies.
For your legacy systems which adapter fits best to your system and your scenario.

Hi Sourabh,
From SAP side we can use IDOC or RFC or Proxy
When we have the STD Idoc and the process is Async means we can choose Idoc
When we have the STD RFC and the process is Sync means we can choose RFC
If your SAP R/3 is >=6.20 means we can use Proxies and we can call the RFC Inside the Proxy also
